The Combat Division is the best known division of the department.  Its sole function is to respond to calls for help when needed or requested no matter the weather, hour of day or night.  All members of the department, no matter what division they are assigned to, are required to respond to emergency calls.

The Combat Division has one Division Chief, a Captain and two Lieutenants which are responsible for command, safety, rescue, scene control and the proper conclusion to the emergency.

The Division maintains modern fire apparatus, up to date equipment and training to enable it to do the best job possible.  The safety of our firefighters must always be placed first before any actions are taken.

We have set goals within our department, to give the people of our city the best protection available, with intense training, and in-depth schooling.  Our job is a never ending task, with today’s technologies where working smarter, not harder to keep you safe. Protecting you and your family, is our pleasure.

Training

Training to be a firefighter with the City of Macclenny requires classroom study as well as hands on instruction.  Firefighters must maintain a 75% passing grade in areas of instruction.  A new part-time firefighter will be required to obtain over 400 hours of instruction before being allowed to perform duties without direct supervision or in an hazardous area.  Then they must maintain at least 24 hours per month in-service training to remain employed.

All training is conducted under the direction of a State Fire College certified instructor.  The City of Macclenny provides in-house training as well as training provided through and in cooperation with the State Fire College, Florida DOF, Lake City Community College, and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue.
