Fire Department

In 1996 to better protect the citizens of the City of Macclenny from man made and natural disasters, the City Commission passed an all encompassing emergency management ordinance and created the Department of Public Safety and named the Fire Chief the Director of Public Safety.

The city works closely with Baker County Emergency Management and has established mutual aid agreements with the State of Florida, the Florida Fire Chief’s Association, the City of Jacksonville, Baker County Health Department, Ed Fraser Hospital and Baker County.

These mutual aid agreements has increased the safety for our citizens. Several times since its adoption the city has had to enact them by requesting assistance for major fires within the city. As a further result the city also responds several times a year to other communities requesting emergency help with equipment and manpower.

The city’s emergency management policies and procedures are maintained at the fire department and up dated annually. The city operates under a “Phase Call” system which addresses each phase of an emergency from notification of all city employees and equipment ready checks to an “All Call Phase” which requires all emergency personnel to report to duty.

The city’s emergency operation center is located at 139 East Macclenny Avenue (Fire Station One). At this center the city maintains a full range of communications with out side agencies and serves as a back up to Baker County’s Emergency Center.
