A lighted Christmas parade along with other festivities is held on the first Saturday in December of each year. The lighted parade was started in 1993 by the Macclenny Fire Department and the City of Macclenny. Today it is the single largest event held within the city and county each year.
The fire department was looking for a way to promote goodwill and bring in the holiday season by promoting “The True Sprit of Christmas”. Thus the lighted parade was born. “The True Spirit of Christmas” has remained the theme for the lighted parade and the festivities that where added in 1995 to make the event a full day of fun and goodwill for our community and friends who come to joint us in bringing in the holiday season.
Each year the lighted parade has over 100 lighted floats and entries. The festivities include over 80 arts, crafts, food booths, games, and rides in the downtown center around the fire department and city hall.
The festivities kick off at 10:00 a.m. with live entertainment and music in front of the fire department, then at 6:00 p.m. fireworks signals the start of the lighted parade. The parade route runs from 8th Street on West Macclenny Avenue to the Courthouse on East Macclenny Avenue.
At City Hall, Santa climbs down from atop the city’s ladder truck and lights the community Christmas tree provided by the city, fire department, and the Baker County Chamber of Commerce, and further continues by giving out fruits and gifts.
The day and into the night is filled with fun, joy and goodwill and helps to bring in the holiday season by remembering what “The True Sprit of Christmas” is to each and everyone.
Any company, organization, or person wishing to participate in our parade must complete our application or booth entry form and further agree to our rules and regulations. All applications and entry forms must be received by November 30th for consideration! Completed applications and entry forms may be hand delivered to the Fire Department, mailed to: Macclenny Fire Department, 139 East Macclenny Avenue, Macclenny, FL 32063, or faxed to 904-259-8421.
