Macclenny Fire Department

Explorer Post 889

The Macclenny Fire Explorer Post 889 is a youth development program, sponsored by the
Macclenny Fire Department. The Post is open to young men and women between 14 to 20
years of age.

The Fire Explorers gain an understanding in the operation of the fire department, skills and
knowledge in firefighting, medical first responder, traffic control, crowd control, dispatch and
communications and serving the public.

Explorers which have completed all the required training are allowed to ride-a-long
with firefighters to alarms on apparatus to serve in a support functions.  During major
fires, disasters, or a State of Emergency, they may staff the fire stations and the city's EOC
and assist with communication functions or other areas needed. The Explorer is require to
assist with any and all civic functions the fire department is involved with.

These young men and women are given the chance to advance within  the
fire department. We look at each Explorer as a person with respect and care for they
are our next firefighters and officers.
